At the risk of making a fool of myself and asking a question that has been asked many times before...
A number of weeks ago, the car stalls and won't restart. Engine turns over but there is no spark. Our initial inspection found one of the fuses blown and some cooked wires to the coil and distributor. These were replaced but the fuse kept blowing. We disconnected the taco from the negative side of the coil and the system appeared to work. The taco has been left disconnected. We replaced the distributor, coil and leads with new electronic system. The other night however, the car stalled and despite being able to jump start it and get it home an inspection revealed that the battery was practically flat. I have since charged the battery, started the car and found that the amp meter needle was on zero but if I turn the lights on or operate the fans or windows that the amp meter flips straight into the negative. Question: In your collective opinions do you think it is more likely to be the alternator or regulator or both? I belive it is a three wire system. Also, any thoughts on the taco problem...
Lastly, the small red indicator light above the steering wheel...what does it indicate? And,I believe the generator light in the speedo should switch off after ignition, correct??
