Got a weird problem with my turn signals, anybody got any idea what might be wrong?

Hazard switch works fine and all 4 corners flash as normal.

Operate the left turn signal switch and it works as normal. Operate the right turn signal switch and the lights work as normal but the hazard switch light on the dash also comes on and flashes. It only comes on with the right turn, not the left.

Hazard switch is wired up exactly as Pantera Place diagram. Turn signal switch is stock as is the wiring.

Looking at the Pantera Place wiring schematic for the Hazards/Turn signal mine is wired the same so I have no idea on this one.

It may be the internals of the hazard switch have failed. These switches do have a history of failure.

Ditto.

Get a thin, flat tooth pick and use it as a wedge between the red hazard button and the black housing. Try different points and test the lighting functions. Maybe select 3-6-9-12.

IF your problems go away during your testing, you have found your culprit.

At this point, you can choose to do what many owners have done and .....leave the toothpick right there.

Or replace the little booger. They require your full attention to not screw up the wiring order/placement.

The switches are common to many BMW cars and should be easily sourced from the UK or Roland in Germany. If you go that route, be aware there are some small differences between units that outwardly appear the same. Ask and all shall be revealed.

Good luck.

the current shown in blue is due to a path created by a short across the "R" to "31" contacts

This is a close cousin to the unit used in our Panteras, but the unit pictured mounts in a hole and is retained only by the tension of its retaining tabs.

The unit used in our cars is retained with a threaded nut on the backside of the dashboard hole.

I cannot say whether the pictured unit is electrically the same as the original Pantera unit.

Larry you are right. It is held in place slightly different than the OEM. Fortunately that will not be evident once the Switch is sitting in the Dash. Regarding the Pins they are the same as the OEM apart from one which is labeled with a different Terminal # but serves the same purpose. Our 59d (instrument light) is called 58b on this Switch.

They also sell a another Switch which is held in place with a large Nut like our OEM but it has a different appearance and looks more "bulky"

Yea good solid replacement switch and for under $10. The wiring took a bit of working out initially as there are 10 terminals on the new switch as opposed to 7 on the original. It didn't come with any wiring instructions but Jan is correct with the wiring order above.

Very slight enlargement of the hole in the dash needed but my problem now solved, all working fine.

cheers
