Anti-pump-up lifters are hydraulic lifters that have been internally clearanced so they do not 'pump up' their preset lash and float valves at high rpms. In all cases, they work just like std hydraulic lifters. But in an otherwise stock Pantera, the stock valve springs will float the valves well before the need for any high rpm lifters kick in. As for the "proper" cam for your car, CALL Crower, Crane or Iskendarian and ask for the Tech Line. Each grinder maintains a technically savvy person that answers such questions. They know their product and will first ask what you intend to do with your Pantera, then based on what you tell them, they will have a recommendation. Just be truthful- if you imply that you're going to Daytona to race next March, they will have a cam for you, but I guarantee you won't be a happy camper once you get it installed.... Second thought: the 351C was a limited production engine, so the number of cams sold is minimal. All or most unground cam blanks in the U.S are made by only one or two shops and all the grinders buy them, then do their thing to make a cam. Some of these blanks have badly done distributor drive gears cut integral to the cam... and its very difficult to pick them out until they''re in your motor. Such a cam can wear out the stock distributor gear in as little as 5 miles of easy driving! All the grinders have been bitten by this recent happening. So, be very sure you can return such a cam for full dollar refund. Note also this will spread slivers of cast iron throughout your engine, which will then need a total overhaul for scored bearings, scratched cylinder bores, and a new $100 gasket set, which the cam grinder likely will NOT cover. I use a mild hydraulic performance cam and hydraulic lifters from SVO-Ford, partly for this reason. It cost 3 miles per gallon in street driving but does seem more peppy than a stocker.
