I tried looking through old posts on this subject and Mikes Pantera Place but I couldn't find anything on the specific process to remove the Axle Bearings after pulling the Axle. Do you press out both inner and outer bearings together through the outside after removing the ring or is there a trick to getting them out individually. The center bearing insert makes it almost impossible for a punch to have a place to seat so the bearings can be tapped out from the inside.
Thanks, Toby

Toby,

The inner bearing will go all the way through, so press both bearings and spacer out together from the inside out.

Dont forget to replace the inner bearing with a wider double roller bearing. You will have to get the spacer machined down, other than that it slides right in. If you dont do this you will be replacing your bearings (and possibly axle) again in 10,000 miles time. If you need the wider bearing part number, let me know.

Hi Jim,

I have cut and pasted the following from a previous I wrote on the forum under the title "Wheel bearing replacement"

When I did one of my axles recently for the second time, I took advise from Steve Wilkinson. He told me to use an extra wide inner bearing. He says that he has yet to have one go bad in the 7 years he has been doing this modification.

Use the extra wide bearing on the inside. The original inner bearing is 18mm wide, I used a double roller that is 30.2mm wide. This gives it more purchase on the shaft. You will have to get the spacer machined down to make room for it. This will give you an opportunity to clean up the mating surfaces of the spacer. You will find a burr where it has been chattering around next to the worn out bearing. Measure your axles for damage, they often need replacing after bearing failure.

The wider inner bearing is part no 3208B-2RSRTNG
The outer bearing is part no 6308DDU

Or just take you old inner bearing down to the bearing shop and ask for a wider double roller version.

Johnny
