back up lights deauville

Hi all,

Was tinkering with the endless bunch of wires under my dash today when something got my attention. It seems that my back up lights only work when the lightswitch on the centerconsole is in either position 1 or 2.
In other words, lights off, no reversing lights. I checked the wiring diagram and indeed the switch on the C6 box is routed via the dimmer to the console switch.
Is this even legal nowadays?

Oh and I still have no low and high beam. The highbeam relay clicks but the lowbeam one doesn't do anything. any tips are very welcome.
