Has anybody installed? What's smart to use? A camera wired to the backup light switch? Bluetooth? Screen as part of normal mirror? Or seperate screen on dash? Or on your smartphone?

11 Inch Color Monitor.
2 Cameras (Right Blind-Spot, and Rear) switched on the fly. The Cameras Also have 'Night Vision'.
Supplied Connection to display My Laptop with GPS, Streets Program, and Road Topography, More.
Mounted to the Dash, Central, Clamped ONLY, NO Holes have ever been drilled.
Not connected to the Back-Up Switch, Manually Operated.
Cameras can be put into 'Mirror' Mode, just by dis-connecting a simple 'Jumper'. I Left them in 'Rear View' Mode...Viewed as if You turned Your head around and You're LOOKING to the Rear. Can be Confusing, at times! Takes getting use to.
Works better than expected...especially for those CHP Cruisers, that come onto the freeway Behind You, and think they are 'Hiding' in Your Blind-Spot. And, ofcourse, while Backing Out of any parking spot. And when Vehicles pull-up to with-in 2 feet behind the rear, at most stops. They want to be on Camera.
This view is taken in My Garage, Your Looking Back Over the Right Door Sill(Blind-Spot Camera). One of My Workbenches, in the Background. Not a Good Picture, It Looks 'Washed-Out' as the Camera was directly under a Bright Florescent Shop Light. The Monitor is Fully Adjustable..Color, Tint, Brightness. Contrast, More. This Color Monitor Was set on Too High of Brightness, for the Photo.

Ofcourse, it's All 12 Volts. The CCTV cameras are sized 'Lipstick'.

i was less ambitious made a small bracket to hold camera near license plate and hard wired to 4 inch monitor attached to dash where red hazard light was wired to bu light
You can get a rear camera that mounts into the license plate holder or more exactly is interregnal with it.
The camera really is the simple part.
The real issue with the Pantera is formalizing where everything will go. The technology keeps advancing by leaps and bounds.
You might find that what you thought was the "cats meow" today is yesterdays technology tomorrow.
The interior of the car does not lend itself well to finding a space for the viewing screen.
Personally in the case of the Pantera I like the viewing screen in the rear view mirror but you will need to swithch from the original to a glass mounted mirror, run all the wires to it, etc.
So far the image available in those units requires a magnifying glass to see. The screen is 1.5" x 1.5" or so. Very small.
Marlin's solution is to put a nice size screen in the car.
Maybe a projection onto the windshield isn't far off? That would work for me.
If you can find a blue tooth version then you just need to run 12v to the mirror and a ground.
I'm interested in this too but the technology needs to settle down some before I decide on the hardware approach that will be the least intrusive.
The car already has enough holes cut into it from previous modifications and I don't even remember what those were for at this point.
A case in point to what I mean is that the current crop of "high tech" cars have a myriad of controls mounted into the steering wheel. I presume that this IS F! car technology but so far I am locked out on that.
If they aren't "blue tooth" devices, how are you going to wire all of them through a rotating hub?
You can, and I have run two through the column but physically there isn't enough room in the space available to run all of those connections by hard wiring in there.
I am told that they are a system called CAN buss. Even so, they require three hard wire connections through the steering with a clock spring type of device.
I don't think this would apply to a camera system though, just instrumentation?
I haven't been able to take any 2016-7 steering wheels off to see how that was done.
It almost seems that the new Lambo's and Ferraris have all of their controls right there in the steering wheel center.
That may be old hat for some but for me that is new technology.
For me a complete wireless camera system would be best.
I keep looking at rear view mirrors for an adaptable system but so far haven't found the right one for the Pantera.
I suppose this is as complicated or simple as one wants to make it?

just means a bus line wiring system.
We used CAN on our Mobile cranes when in its infancy. Instead of using 24volt systems, went to CAN using 5 or 9volt circuits.
The plugs on the machines were made for 24V the problems of voltage loss due water ingress was a nightmare.
I imagine thats not an issue today.

The need for a commutator is still there then.
On the shots of the cockpit of the Indy cars with the steering wheels off, I didn't see any indications of that at all.
I'm sure there are going to be technology variations from team to team but it leads back to a wireless communication system.

My understanding of a Can network, you could run the camera controls over the network but I don't see the image running over the network. Can is a simple broadcast network where devises send out basic data. The devices reading the data have to listen to all the info and pick out the data they are looking for.
This is a completely different concept then say a computer network which routes a one to one connection between two devices.

On My 2012 and up ford Ranger they used the camera in the rear of the large Ford oval badge, and it projected the image back to the mirror inside the car , it was very effective and a clean install. Im sure it could be adapted to our Panteras.
There are already rear view mirrors that incorporate the screen for the back up camera.
There are a variety of them. For me though I want the record feature, opera map lights, auto dim, and probably a compass, all incorporated into the same unit. For that I need to wait a little.
So far I have not seen all these features combined into the one unit. The "record feature" is available in some but not in every combination? It is a very popular and requested feature. So far you need to choose and pick.
The auto dim map lights are the most difficult to get in these mirrors simply because there are no current production vehicles that have them designed into their interiors.
The ones that I currently have in my Gentex work VERY well in the Pantera besides being super cool with the opera self dimming feature!
They are located perfectly for the Pantera's layout.
So aftermarket features would probably originate from what a major order customer would require in a product such as, Ford, GM, Chrysler, etc, for a production car.
In a Pantera, by default, I think just about the only place you can put the screen is in the rear view mirrors unless you intend to block something like the gauges, switches or an a/c control or vent with it?
There are lots of 2 DIN size screens available now to mount in a good size console. Where are you going to put those in a Pantera?

I also have a separate talking back up distance alarm. It counts down the distance between the car and the nearest object and the last comment "she" makes is "crash".
The voice is an Asian female. Works off of the backup switch on the zf.
