Does any one else beside me notice the similarities between a BMW M1 and a Pantera? Is there any connection here? I was just reading where the bodies for the M1 were supposed to be made in Italy. The M1 sure looks like a knock off of a Pantera to me. Any one know anything about this car? It would be a beaufiful stable mate to my Pantera. Vince

The M1 body was designed by Giugiaro. The chassis was designed by the same gentleman who designed the Pantera's, Dallara. It uses a ZF tranny, just like the Pantera. If you compare chassis dimensions, they are almost identical to the Pantera.

The in line 3.5 liter (213 cubic inch) 6 cylinder motor was rated for about 275 DIN bhp, equivalent to approximately 250 SAE bhp.

I would put in a big American V8. Something easy to work on, strong and throaty. The V12's don't make enough HP for their weight, their too complex, atc.

Oh wait, I have one of those. It's called a Pantera!
DeTom,

I'm not a rich guy, I just like things the way I like them. I could care less what anyone says about what I do with my car! My attitude is I paid for the right to enjoy it anyway I see fit! If were to buy an M1 it wouldn't be as an investment, but because I want to enjoy it! If I were bent on an M1, I would've gotten one a long time ago (and put a V12 in it). I have my dream car, a Pantera, and I thoroughly appreciate the big American V8 for the reasons Gary (comp2) states.

Oh heck, I didn't mean it as an insult. I wouldn't mind putting that Bugatti Ww-16 in my car if someone gave me one. 1000 hp sound just about right for cruising. Smiler I am just kind of jealous of guys like Jay leno I guess.

Tell me no. The Delorian is a 6cyl. It's not even a real sports car!

LOL

The grass is always greener on the other side. The M1, the Lotus Turbo Esp, The Pantera, all similar designs carried out very differently. All very neat. I would still wrather have the Pantera in my garage. I drove a friends Lotus Esperi(espri, esiperi, sp?). Neat car, fast smooth very nice. Does not have that muscle car feel a Pantera has. Nice car but different. Given all of them in same price range, I would still wrather have the Pantera.

That's a;lso what's fun about car shows and friends. It is cool that others can own them and we can see them and enjoy them. I don't need to own it to apreciate it but I do like to at least look it over maybe drive one etc.

Well said. Substitute M1 with Pantera.

Cool
