Let's just say that the brakes were quite weak when I bought the car. It has the Wilwood Superlite II set-up with SS braided brake hoses. Started by replacing the faulty master cylinder (not original) with a Ford SVO unit, which was thoroughly bench bled. No change, the brake pedal still went all the way to the floor.
Next the proportioning and pressure differential valves were eliminated and also the rusted out hard brake line for the right front wheel. I have bled the system repeatedly (probably 2 gallons of brake fluid has gone through) with no air bubbles showing. The brake pedal is still extremely mushy and only if pumped vigorously do you get some braking action. At this point the front calipers tend to lock up and only with considerable effort can the brake rotors be moved. The car is on stands with the wheels off, I'm not driving until I have this sorted out.
My next effort is to rebuild all brake calipers but was told by one of the vendors that if they dont leak leave them alone. Has anyone had similar problems? I should mentioned that the first flush produced sludge coming out of the brake lines and the hollow-out proportioning valve had a lot of gunk in it. I am also considering replacing all brake lines although no leaks are visible. Suggestions and advice are welcome.
