broken zf rear mount

My early 71 pushbutton has 1 mount in the rear center, It was held to the zf with 4 studs sticking thru the rear cover, 2 have broken off in the AL part of the trans. If I remove the rear cover I can get to them to replace. What will happen when I remove the cover? I don't want a pile of parts falling out I can't put back in!!

You are a wise man to stop. When you remove the rear cover, the shaft that the reverse gear slides on may or may not come out with it. Sometimes it is as if the shaft is pressed into the rear cover and other times not. If the shaft does slide out with the rear cover, reverse gear will drop to the bottom of the rear case and you will most likely have to open up the ZF to repair.
