A Cleveland has the thermostat in the block and coolant port between the block
and head. A Windsor has the thermostat in the intake manifold and a coolant
port between the intake and cylinder head. Racers will often run external
thermostats (or just restrictors) and take coolant out the front face of the
heads. Sometimes they will add bleeds there, as well.

Sounds correct.

I've seen screens epoxied in place to catch debris should a spring or stud
break. I've also seen oil return lines from valve covers directly to the
oil pan. Also, dry sump set-ups that use lines inside the valve covers to
spray oil on the valve springs. I've not seen anyone intentionally pool
oil becuase it tends to get sucked down the valve guides.
