I have an RBT6 transaxle in my 71 Pantera and I’m having an issue with getting it adjusted to get it into reverse. It seems as though I can get the 6 forward gears but it won’t go into reverse. I can get it to the area of reverse it won’t ingage and slip out of gear. Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated thank you John

Also make sure that a stud on the back plate is not screwed in too far. Do a search on this forum or contact Larry Finch for details.
Check as mentioned above, and report back if the problem still exists. If so, remove the shift gate try again. It will probably work w/out the gate in place. You can adjust from there.

The RBT 6 speed transaxle does, indeed, use a cable shifter and no shift gate. I believe it does not use the reverse lights switch that is used with the 5 speed's normal shift linkage. The back plate stud issue is a possibility though.
I also might have suspected a clutch release deficiency but as John can get it partially engaged (but pops out of reverse), it's probably a cable adjustment issue. I would speak with Corey Price, who recently acquired the cable shifter business from SACC, or Lloyd Butfoy, who designed the first version of the cable shifter, if I'm not mistaken.
The popping out of gear was the symptom that Larry Finch had when the stud was screwed in too far.
