A friend sent me these pictures of the California wildfires. Such a tragedy! My heart goes out to everyone who lost something. It never ceases to amaze me that with all the technology that man possesses, he is helpless against acts of nature (and those instigated by man).

Great pictures indeed! But, FWIW, the 2nd pic of the two deer in the river is not from the California wildfires. It was taken on August 6, 2000 in the Bitterroot National Forest as several fires converged into a firestorm that overran 100,000 acres and destroyed 10 homes. John McColgan, a fire behavior analyst in the employ of the USDA Forest Service, snapped the spectacular photograph with a digital camera near the East Fork of the Bitterroot River where it crosses under U.S. Highway 93.
