John, I haven't seen the mag so I obviously can't comment on the article, I'll try and find one. Until then, just a cautious warning, most modern journalism on Cleveland engines is way off, the authors & engine builders are more familiar with Windsors & small block Chevys. That's just a geralization, nothing negative about this particular article. I do have an open mind & hope a good Cleveland article makes the press.

PS, I moved your post to the engine forum, I hope this doesn't create too much confusion.

your friend on the DTBB
Nyack NY, yes thats Charlie Olsen Engines and thats where my engine is.

Ah yes this is the 351C 4V that was on the dyno today with stock CI intake and CI exhuast manifolds and made 500hp.

Its for a Factory Appearing Stock Tire drag racing car. The Mustang is a concourse perfect car and the motor on the outside appears to be the same. Inside the class states it can be HP.
Yes it was stock except for the stroker kit and
cam .. I guess the results will be next month. Mine will be up at bat shortly.

The XE block is finally out for Sonic Testing .. I got a set of C302B heads intake and complete valve train used and the crank kit will be the 383 kit. So far thats the best I can do with a limited budget. we are shooting for 10.5 to 1 compression. So we will see.

Ron,thats not too bad.
I was patient and tried to obtain the parts I wanted for my engine .. they are used parts in good shape. I have some other options but I think they are too radical. It seems OLSEN has built some considerably higher horse power 335's. Thats where the C302B came from. There is also a crank and some other stuff laying around.

Thanks.
I'm not an expert on this subject but my best guess is there are numerous reasons why the parts are disciontinued from use :

Guesses:

blown up, cracked, overbored, over stressed, a plenty full supply of both parts and money, experimental reasons, out dated, poor cores, better parts become available.....etc.

Yes these parts for a variety of reasons do show up on ebay, in local speed shops, local engine builders, swap meets, local shops... etc.

Detom your down in the NASCAR BELT .. theres gotta be some part kickin around.

Ron
Well this Friday I am going to Charlotte to visit a friend of mine. I will see if we can go down to one of the big name race shops and dig around in their dumpsters. Who knows? some heads here and pistons there and before you know it I can build a high horse motor for free. Big Grin
No joke George, I one time got into a fight with a racoon. He ripped me a new asshole. They are way tougher than they look. I had to go to the emergency room and everything. YOu can kick those little bastards clear across the room and they just come back for more. Take it from me, don't screw with them.

Ron, here is what I found out. The racing shops like Rousche and Penske destroy their parts before throwing them away. I asked them why they do such a stupid thing and they said so the competition won't steal their secrets, or whatever. Then I told them that was a really gay thing to do and they threw me out. So I went to the nascar mueseums, and they had like really cool 15" racing slicks for sale for like $25 bucks. They was used but some numbnuts had drilled holes in them so you couldn't use them. What dicks!!! By then I was getting pretty pissed off by this malicious contempt they seemed to have for the shade tree mechanic. So I went to the local Porsche dealer just to look at the new cars. They had a car that really appealed to me. It was called a Carrera GT and it looked like what a modern Pantera would look like. So I got my credit card out and walked up to the manager and said I would take that one over there, and he said, sorry sir but we have sold that to another customer. What bullshit!!! They probably just didn't want to sell it to me on account of the way I smelled from having been crawling around in dumpsters all day. What a crappy trip that turned out to be. Frowner

So the conversation went like this?

DeTom to Jack Roush: " Hey Jack, Can I have that old block"

Jack to DeTom: "Sorry, no. We destroy our propriatary equipment before it is recycled"

DeTom to Jack Roush: "Why do you do something so Stupid?"

Jack to DeTom: "We have 10s of millions of dollars of R&D and years of effort invested in our equipent, we destoy it before it is recycled in order to protect our intellectual property, our domineering position in motorsports, and our team's livelihood"

DeTom to Jack: "That's really gay"

Jack to DeTom "Get out!!!"

Yeah, we let the guys with Ph.D's work for us.
They shovel the shit and the guys who didn't grad HS follow them around to learn.

We let the guys with the drivers license push the wheelbarrels.
