clunking ?

was wondering if one would now what to look for when you hear a clunking on the lelt handrear of the car? it seem to come and go ,I think it could be u-joints maybe a couple of needles fell out ,just a though

Sounds like a u-joint. Easy enough to check.
Could be as easy as a loose nut on one of the bolts.
