coolant change

Hello all, I am going to change my coolant in my '73. My heater core has shut off valves (I keep them closed,warm enough with the 351C heater next to me). I will open them when I purge the system. My question is, should I close the valves prior to refilling and keep the heater core dry? Any pros or cons in doing this? By the way, I live in so. cal. It never gets cold here!

Keep the valves open when you change the coolant. You don't want to trap an air bubble that might later be released into the system.

I'm in So Cal too, and I do use the heater on cold Saturday mornings going to cars and coffee.
