I purchased a SCAT 3.75 stroke Super Light Pro Comp with Nitrale coating thru the advise of my engine builder and a friend who is a metalurgist ... the only thing I;m saying a prayer on is the quality of who machined it ... but that can be a flaw in any product. Its been said they are foriegn made ..but what isnt these days.

The castings and forgings are all being made in China.
The quality is as high as anywhere. I'd like to say that it is US technology but we probably, ah, borrowed it, yes that's the word, borrowed it also.
Whether or not the quality check of the casting is accurate or not is another question all together.
The machining is done in the USA and hopefully the bad castings are descovered in time.

I'm running an Eagle. I run it hard and haven't broken it as of this moment. Maybe tomorrow. Roll Eyes
Gonna stir the pot a little...

An internally balanced crank is a good piece to beef up a motor for continuous high rpm work. In my mind the Chinese manufactured cranks & that type of use are incongruous. That's why racers purchase cranks manufactured by Callies, Bryant, King, HTC, etc.....

I feel if my motor will be used in such a way that the internal balanced crank is warranted, that I would go all the way with the real deal race part, for that added amount of insurance against failure.

Not to dispute your point ..but... you think those pieces are made here in the USA and the technology, materials, mean and methods are better, I would hope so ... but I will go to the expert who is a Pantera man and who just got a contract to make rods for CROWER and see what his take is on the issue.

I'll be back ! LOL

Try this site for some info, the best a person could do is a little research under "US made Crankshafts"
This reminds me of when the US started buying billet steel from Japan, They were selling it as quality steel to us to machine, well on many occassions while cutting this steel on a lathe you would come across a hard section that would about tear your tool off the machine, turned out to be ball bearings thrown into the mix and then exported to the US as quality metal.
Of late you can buy tools from china that either shatters due to being to brittle or just plane breaks after a few uses.
I have old plumb, proto, snap on & even crafts man older tools that have survived many jobs that I would not even think of putting a chinese tool threw.
Same goes for cranks! No chinese made crank will ever see it's way into my Pantera or anything else, to damn important!

The whole subject is very touchy. I buy US as often as possible ... but remember now we are talking about ITALIAN cars we own here ..LOL In todays market the technicality is a company can call itself MADE IN USA if 51% of the company is USA. That has a lot of meanings.

I;m not in support of a SCAT crank which I purchased ..at the time I was just oblivious to the fact that it was made in ASIA. Most of the products are a take off and use inferior materials. Our European and Canadian friends produce some fine products and trade on a fair playing field.

With thats said I cant return the crank now so wish me luck and I will be the test dummy.

If you want to make sure you have a crank shaft made in the USA, just have one made from a billet of titanium alloy. It will be lighter and stronger than anything you can buy. Of course it will cost more than the whole rest of the engine and car put together, but that;s beside the point.

DT, do you mean like the titanium turret for the Abrams M1 tank that was manufactured in Japan from titanium?
