Greetings all (I hope the moderators won't find me posting this twice too scandalous Eeker),

I've made some more updates to my De Tomaso Registry today - you can access it here: http://www.qv500.com/detomasoregistry.php

I'll be adding categories for the regular Pantera derivatives in the coming weeks. In the meantime I'd like to invite all other owners and enthusiasts to send me any known history and photos of De Tomaso cars for inclusion. You can e-mail me on bentyer@qv500.com.

Also I'd like to specially thank Franz Krump, Charlie McCall and Scott Martin for their help in getting things started.

Best,

BT

Go to the web site and on the left I think it has a "contact us" section.
You need to email Ben Tyer, he's the editor.
Click onto that and then it should just open your email page up, then
just enter all your info on your car such as exterior/interior colour and
any history you know about your car.
Once you have sent it they will process it and put it on the web site, it's pretty cool.
My car is 5159.

Greetings all,

Thanks to everyone who's contributed details and photographs of their cars for the De Tomaso Registry on QV500.com: http://www.qv500.com/detomasoregistry.php

I've just finished making this weeks updates and the car count currently stands at 58 - not bad considering it's only been going five weeks. It would be great if we could exceed 500 by the end of this year so please do get in touch - you can find my contact details on the DTR home page by clicking the hyperlink. I promise to get a page up for the regular Pantera variants in the next couple of weeks.

There's also an article this month on the Tecno-De Tomaso of 1968 with ex-De Tomaso works driver Jonathan Williams adding some extra insight. Enjoy...

Best,

BT
To all the fans,
making a registry is a great idea BUT
it s only a good idea when the job done is correctly done.
To do this, you need official factory papers, which in the case of Ben Thier is not the case.

In the GR3 section, you already have 2 wrong chassis numbers in your 3 cars database !!!!!

Which is not a good start !

By publishing theses errors, you just show to the world that your knowledge is very limited.

But it don t give to the DT community any help, as what s neeed the DT community is less information but better quality.

Now, I fully understand that as you didn t spend thousands of hours in the archives of De Tomaso, it s very difficult or impossible for you to verify the information that people may send to you. ( When it s not invented from Scratch )

As you see, theses types of research cost a lot of money if you want to do it correctly, and publishing incorrect infos is only a way to put yourself in a wrong position.

Now, you cannot also take others people works and use it for your own goods.

My advice is simple if you realy want to do a correct registry which need to be based from official factory documentation.
Less infos but 100 % accurate.
Now to realise this, you will need to spend a lots of time to verify any words send to you by the owners of the cars.

To have a real GR3, you need more than a special engine in your car !

DT is a great marque, they have made great cars but to help to build a better image, the people involve in the internet DT activity need to publish quality infos and works ( Like Dave Adler, who did may be the best magazine DT in the world )

We don t see Ferrari internet website who publish as a 288 a 308 custimised !

Well it’s always a pleasure to have somebody you’ve never met insinuate you’re a liar.

I’m not sure quite what the angle is here but the tone of Olczyk’s post suggests a dose of ‘Treading carefully’ is recommended.

I sent Ben the details of my own car as the site seems to me to be just what’s needed. The chap has taken the time to put it together so the least one can do as an owner is to provide some helpful information.

Hopefully over time more owners will do the same and then we have a very useful source of information for both owners and fans of the marque in general..

Rather than criticise what seems to be a genuine attempt at providing a valuable source of information what would you propose that would be better?

Perhaps a covert break-in at the factory with a fake beard and glasses and have a rifle around what’s left?

In the words of Benjamin Disraeli “How much easier it is to be critical than it is to be correct”

And for what its worth my own car is with Roger Brotton being restored who can be readily accessed through the DTDC and can vouch for the tired red Deauville that’s in his workshop.
??????????????????????????????????????????'
I don t understand your answer Mr Vario Rob....
I just say that making a registry and publishing mistakes or incorrect infos don t help anybody....
Now, if you want a registry where owners declare that their car was the first to go to the moon, it s ok with me.
But then, it s not a registry.
A normal registry try to put together the truth, no more, no less.
If I have a normal Pantera and declare that my car win Le Mans and that the registry publish my idioties, it just make the registry a clown registry.
The help to any members is to find CORRECT INFOS, like in the magazine of Dave Adler.
Not untrue stories.
I m sure that you agree with me.
Regards
Hi all, I wish I did, but it s not the case !
That s the reason WHY I repeat that the truth come from the archives of the factory, not from me, not from any registry.
3 years ago GTC in France put at Poulain auction a Pantera GR3 chassis 5855 but the catalogue say that the car was the GR4 who did the 1975 Le Mans ( which of course was untrue )
During my research of the book DT, from the factory archives, I found out that the car was racing as a Gr3 at Le Mans number 7, and I contacted the owner to give him the proper history.
Now the same GTC claims that this GR3 had receive a special GR4 lightweight chassis during his modification from GR3 to GR4 ( which of course again is untrue but published by Thier website )
Now, let s take the supposition that you buy the car and believe the story from Ben Thier Registry....WHAT WILL BE YOUR REACTION ????????
HAPPY or HUNGRY ? .. Asking Price is a stupid 180 000 Euros.....

Now, let s face the reality....
What type of infos do you want ?

Regards
Sounds to me that Mr Tyer and Mr Olcyz both want the same thing, an accurate registry.

If Ben is going to maintain a registry then we can all help by:
1 - Being careful that information we send him can be verified as true (documentary evidence).
2 - Don't send Ben anything that is copyrighted (e.g. photos from magazines) without warning him.
If he's publishes copyright material he will need the permission of the copyright holder.
So make sure you tell him if you don't own the pictures that you send.
3 - Letting him know politely if you spot an error and can supply a correction.

Olcyz - does have a fair point. The registry is useless if it is not accurate, so let's help Ben keep it that way.
So let's support Ben, he does it for free. Ben doesn't say, that he is the founder of the truth. Also DT archives may be wrong in some cases. For example, for my Mangusta i got all production sheets from the factory. I got it from the first owner with only 9000 Kilometers on.It was a matching no. car. The archive claimed the motor as a 289. In fact it was a 302. The number on the motor was right but the motor was wrong. Second, the body carried two different ch.numbers and had a damage in front from the beginning. I suppose it was a damage in a test ride. After that it was repaired and sold again as a new car. Race cars had several chassis no. I know one group4 car with four! different chassis no. This was all common in that years with all kind of small car manufctures.
Olczyk wants money for the informations, he got for free from DeTomaso and no one knows if they are accurate. If i, as a total unknown person, found already so many mistakes, how many wrong facts might be in all the archives.
I like the comments of Roland Jaeckel.....
Please don t tell us that you known a GR4 with 4 chassis numbers ...SHOW US.
This is untrue rumour !
I don t believe this as things was quite clear in the seventies at DT.

I also like your comments about that I want money for my work ( Like everybody ) You bought Pantera 90 Engine at DT factory for 2000 Euro, how much are you asking now ? 10 000 Euro .
Anyway, Roland, you known that you are not welcome at the factory today and you make a living by selling DT parts......
What is the difference between you and me ...
You work for money, I need to work for free ?

And your comments about DT archives are insulting for the DT marque.....If you don t like it, change your business

As the BB Administrator, I have received several complaints about the tone and personal attack nature of several of the postings in this topic. I know all of the persons involved who have posted on this topic, and I respect all of you. I know that all of you appreciate the DeTomaso marque but express your affections in different ways. The BB Members involved in what appears to be a "heated" discussion, all have strong personalities, emotions and passions about DeTomaso Automobiles and obviously don't see eye-to-eye on this topic. Everybody has made good points. However, when the words selected in a posting degenerate into a personal attack, our Moderators are going to strike either the posting or the entire thread. Is this censorship? The answer is YES. There isn't necessarily free speech on this Forum. When hurtful, offensive or defamatory direct attacks are posted, most probably they will be pruned. A valid and constructive criticism can be useful and is appropriate, however, harsh words pointed at an individual or firm are going to be deleted.
We want this Forum to appeal to as many DeTomaso enthusiasts as possible and the biggest turn-off is when site visitors see site participants attacking eachother, their motives or knowledge (among other things).
I believe there is another venue on the web where DeTomaso enthusiasts attack eachother, vendors, etc. I would ask that the persons involved use that method to vent personally on somebody (assuming that the moderators permit it at that site).
I have been told over and over that our participants on this BB don't want personal attack type of behavior on this 'Board. I have been attacked personally, PI and PI Motorsports in the past on BB's. I always say that if you fly too close to the sun, you will get burned and have left it at that. However, the negativity and often mean-spirited language used does leave a bad taste in the mouth. I don't want to see that kind of dreck here.
I have said enough on this subject and this topic will now be closed.
Respectfully, Dave Adler
