The 10-th position in the code should tell the production year. ZDT874000HA009507 is ( H )
E = 1984
F = 1985
G = 1986
H = 1987
J = 1988
K = 1989
L = 1990
M = 1991
Cars made after July 1st are named the next year model.

As I expect you know, the year of registration/model year can be different from the year of manufacture. For example, I have a letter from Clauida Lodi confirming my car was built in the period April to June, 1988, but the chassis number ("K") shows it to be a 1989 model year.

BTW, where did you obtain your "Certificato Di Garanzia"? I'd love to find one for my car.

Interesting. I've never seen the first three letters. I'll have a look next time I see my car.

That is interesting...Mine doesn't have the first 3 letters and the 10th digit is not a letter, it's the 1st # of the car #, 0 (Zero)

In the early 80's all VINs became 17 digits. All the Ford-era Panteras are pre-17-digit VINS.

That's why deTomaso had to change the VINS, and why yours looks different.

Coz's car is a GT5, which makes it an Embo Carozzeria chassis. In other words, it's not a "Ford era" car. DeTomaso had Embo start making their chassis in 1978.
