I received the following e-mail from the DeTomaso factory yesterday:

DE TOMASO TAKES PART IN TARGA FLORIO 2003 HISTORIC CARS

A perfect mix of relax and competition, a world-ranging event.

Targa Florio is the most ancient car race of the world. Connecting this event to the first official introduction of De Tomaso cars means having a wide echo among experts.

Moreover it means to offer and demonstrate to De Tomaso owners how to start off on the right foot .

A Targa Florio meeting is a business card of absolute respect!!

The programme is a fascinating mix of society, culture and relax including gala dinners, invitations in prestigious houses and ancient castles. For those who wish it, it will be possible to visit the magic places of the island in search of craft and gastronomic traditions.

Palermo and Cerda will be the operative bases of Targa Florio. The event will end in a spectaculare way with a moment fully dedicated to Sicily, with sightseeing tours for those who wish to see not only Palermo but also the Agrigento Temples Valley, Catania, Etna volcano and the mosaics of Armerina Square.

Targa Florio is well-known as the 10.000 bends race; Cerda, Scillato, Collegano, Campofelice, Buonfornello are the legendary names which made the race become famous.

The VIP village, the Hospitality and the Restaurant close to Cerda stands are the facilities which make the event unique. A 69 km route in search ot the most beautiful spots of Sicily which has to be covered twice.

I'm looking into it... It is a shame it is such short notice, and I don't know if I can get the vacation time. The price sounds reasonable, and I could catch a ferry from Barcelona and make it there pretty easily.

I have two questions - if I can get the time off, and how many people will actually be there, seeing the short notice. I guess we'll see!

Charlie i may wish to accompany my Sicilian bred fellow club member and good friend Louie Agro. While I have heard of this famous race that covers 140 kilos I dont quite understand how we view it,especially if we are in the same hotel for three days and nights, Finish line? Also since some pomp and circumstance may be associated with the gala evenings and prestigious places is this a tuxedo and gown affair?. Neither Mr agro nor myself would wish to appear as the underdressed ugly Americans from the South East Pantera Chapter Please keep us advised, sounds like a great adventure.

Roger: You and Louie would be incredible diplomats from the Southeast Panteras!. I couldn't think of better souls out there representing our great chapter. With the way you and Louie drove down from Atlanta last October you would have no worries about the 140kilometers....

LOL...

Take care, Dave
