I don't know if it's a legitimate DeTomaso watch. There were some threads here about a year ago about 'vintage' watches in which the seller was peddling vintage watches with new faces to look like vintage 'factory' watches, which they were not. Inquiries about the authenticity of the watches being originally issued by DeTomaso always went unanswered. They were cool novelties, but not the 'rare collectibles' the seller made them out to be.

This could be a different seller with a different set of watches - he has watches for Cisitalia, Lancia, and others. I didn't know all the Italian auto makers commissioned watches in the 60's and early 70's. If it's truly a DT watch, then the price may be justified. If it's a novelty DT watch ($10 garage/estate sale watch) that's had a new face installed to appeal to enthusiasts of a particular marque, then it's overpriced. Still looks cool, but WAY overpriced in my opinion.
According to , many of these watches have extremely cheap works with a screen printed face, made "somewhere else" and not truly guaranteed to do anything. Since DeTomaso went into receivership in 2004, its been open season on the name from crooks the world over. Hopefully new owner Rossignolo's lawyers will soon get a handle in this. In the meantime, contact Steve Wilkinson in CA for any info- Santiago is moving all the remaining spare parts and historical paperwork to a different Modena location and doesn't answer many (any?) calls.
