Had a non-registering fuel gauge. With great input from LF-TP and BossWrench and all others, I was able to remove unit without incident. Took apart sending unit and cleaned as BossWrench indicated the sending wires are "Hairlike" thin...tested unit with ohm meter and happily had the proper resistence, reinstalled.....Nothing.....Got the brillant idea to test the unit removed from inside the tank.Hooked up the wires and grounded the unit......and.....It WORKS!!!....THEN noticed GAS! dripping out of the FLOAT!....Long story "long".....A barely noticeable hair line crack in the float!......"SO" don't be DUMB!!! like me.....first remove and check the float.....if it is not light as a feather "OR" you shake it and hear gas.....then you most likely have found and solved your problem.....Like always sometimes we go around and around the problem.....AHHHHH time for a BEER.....Or "2"......Mark.
