I think I posted this before but it is all working now.

My electronic turn signal project is wrapping up. I put in a steering column with a removable wheel and no provisions for turn signals.

I made an encoder which fits down on the column. I got the while circuit working pretty well. This allows me to do anything for column trim.

It has opti-isolators to isolate the 12v. The circuit is quite programmable. This has allowed me to:

Toggle switch for turn signal (push button on designer board).

Turns off with opposite movement of steering wheel OR cancel by selecting other turn switch direction.

Automatic cancel after 5 min (or what ever I program).

Front turn signals are also marker lights. Turn on lights, front marker comes on. Hit turn signal and flashes.....OR.....I have also played with a PWM to toggle fronts with 2 different brightness. Full, half,full, half etc.

Flasher reference does flashers but also works with lights AND Turn Signals.

With turn signal and flasher, it flashes all 4 2x then flash the turn lamps 2x then repeats.

All is done internal to the circuit; no relays or external devices.

This is ALSO the circuit which controls 5 servos for the heater distribution system.

It's nice, but I don't understand why some guys have to do things the most difficult way possible LOL!

Use Wilkinson's stainless steel steering wheel quick release and keep the stock column. That's what I did.

I will admit that I did build in a HJonda Civic steering column adjuster though, and for the push button start I had to manufacture my own commutator into the Momo hub but why replace the entire column.

Don't understand that at all.
I did not want the steering column. It is square clunky and looks like it is from a Ford Capri. I wanted to trim it out my own way. I am not using the key. It is a total redesign.

It also solves a problem many hot rodders and kit car builders are dealing with. I am working on moving the circuit to a PIC and perhaps a product.

You have to ask, why do we do things different then everyone else? We all do something different. Why do we have to do things the easy way or the way everyone else does it?

At first this does not seem easy but once the circuit board is made I can build one in short order. I have a few things I am thinking of using the circuit on myself. I have a junky Cushman which I run equipment back and forth between the business shop and the home shop. It is a piece of crap but a fantastic tool.

The cart was set up with leaf springs from hell with a 2200lb load rating. It was designed for a warehouse with concrete floors. I cut out the leaf springs built a 4-leaf suspension with air bags. When parked outside it looks like a derelict vehicle.

I haul welders, engines, tree limbs that would fill a pickup truck, lumber, you name it. I use it almost every day.

BUT...... It's ugly. Has 3 wheels, well worn, etc. I have parts form a Cushman sitting on a skid. It will be a from scratch vehicle. It will be laid out similar but I hope to make a few things better.

Moral of the story is:
1. Why would anyone do this? It works for me; it beats playing golf.
2. Another turn signal application.

That's actually the standard cushman axle. The one I have set aside has another gear in the transmission and will run around 45mph. It also has a PTO for a pump.

This thing is just getting by right now. Clean out the plugs once a month kind of thing. You know how those things are. If I touch one thing I will have the damn thing spread across the barn and I don't want to do that!

Very cool Gary! Can you adjust how much turn-back cancels the signal. It looks like only a slight turn-back cancels the signal which may cancel it to early. Just wondering... Great job and product!

Yes, it is just a matter of setting the number of clicks on the encoder. My next board is set up with a series of dip switches to change things. I may have a sensitivity setting.

The real nice thing about the encoder is that it has no mechanical cam. You never have a situation where you are sitting on the cam when you actuate it.

Most people around here have fancy 4-wheelers which cost as much as a basic car. They typically cannot haul much. I was originally looking for a Gator but they are pricy. The newer Gators are higher then the old one's which I don't like.

With this bed I could actually haul most of the 4x4's themselves.
