D and D,

As far as I know, only 38 Si's were made. Not one of them was imported to the US. I don't think any made it to North or South America. I saw pictures of a burgundy one in Japan. The rest I think are all in Europe.

I've heard that it would cost as much to import an Si as it would to buy one. This means that if you were to pay 100k for one, it may cost another 100k to get it past all the red tape. I don't know how acurate that is, but it will cost a prohibitive amount. If you were to get it in, it would not be as a street legal car. It could only be for showin', not blowin'. It may have to come in pieces and be reassembled here. Joe Moore of Jersey Panteras did this with a deTomaso Guara. It is not legal for street use, only track or trailered to shows.

Pat Mical, who owns a body shop in Mass., did an Si clone in orange. That Pantera was a US spec car. It is the only Si looking Pantera in the US.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but if it could have been done, it would've been done by now. That's not to say it can't be, but the cost involved, I guess, is just too high.

Did you make it to the Orchard Beach Show? I was very disappointed that a last minute family crisis prevented me from going. I missed all my friends and and a good time. Oh well, there's always next year.

I was born and raised in NYC (just moved to CT 1 1/2 years ago), so if you'd ever like to get together, your just a stone's throw away.

Michael is almost right - there were 38 cars sold, and 41 manufactured. Two were crash-tested, one remained in the DeTomaso museuem. Actually, now that that has been sold, the total number of Pantera Si cars sold is now 39!

There is one for sale that I know of - in Switzerland. It only has 400 miles on it - if it is the car I am thinking of it still has the plastic on the doors, and is a targa. They are asking 149,500 swiss francs, which according to Yahoo is roughly $117,000. Contact Fabio at pimout1@prodigy.net.

There's another one advertised for 125,000 euros in Germany. Go to http://www.mobile.de, plug in DeTomaso and you'll get a dozen hits. A nice Vallelunga, and an Si. It's all in German so good luck!
I thought that there was some fairly recent change in Federal regulations where you were allowed to bring one car, one time into the country or something like that. I don't remember the specifics but I thought that's a big reson the gray market went away a guys are bringing in cars like Porsche 959s, or the guys who had them in on the sly, like Bill Gates, can drive them on the roads legally. Any one know anything about that? Vince
Unfortunately I didnt make it to Orchard Beach either It was a beautiful day and I was all set to go. Was actually very interested in seeing your car Cyboman, but things went wrong last minute and I missedf it.
Let me know if you are ever coming back this way....Id love to see your Pantera.
As far as the SI, Im in research mode. I'll find a way though somehow unless I can find a late 80's GT5S to my liking
D and D,

Where there's a will, there's a way! When my mind is set on something, nothing will stop me! I WILL find a way. If you're that bent on it, you will too. It would be nice to have a real Si in the US!

What part of NYC are you in? I was born and raised in The Bronx. I go down there as frequently as I need, or want to. It's only a hop, skip, and a jump away.

D&D -
I"d second Michael's recommendation... I've heard time and again that it is "impossible" or "Very expensive". But I have never, repeat never, spoken to anyone who has ever tried it themselves. I'd have to believe that it isn't easy, but since nobody has ever been sufficiently motivated to actually follow through, I don't know if anyone actually knows how difficult it really is!

I shipped my old '72 over to France for 3 years when I was living over there, although I admit I drove on US plates. That process was a lot easier than I thought (although I admit that it was a lot easier than actually registering it in a different country...)
Sorry guys, was kind of unavailable for awhile. Cyboman I can be reaced at spaceace3113@yahoo.com If your around let me know, I know the weather is bad lately but if you are ever passing througfh let me know.
The SI is looking pretty bleak so Im leaning towards my very close second a GT5S, this atleast I think is do-able....let the games begin....My wife hates me about now, but whats a guy to do???
D&D,

If you need any help with your quest, drop me a line and I'll do what I can, or at least point you in the rigt direction! I'd be more than happy to go with you to see some cars in our area if they pop up.

I may not be out with my Pantera many more times this year. I want to get started with my winter projects!

Michael
I was out of town this weekend, arrived home to find the October 2005 POCA newsletter in the mail.

Inside the back cover, in the classifieds (aka pocamart), there is a red 1993 Si Targa for sale in Zurich Switzerland. 400 miles on the odo, beige interior. Asking 149,500 Swiss Francs.

FYI, there were only 4 Si targas manufactured. Makes this one a rare DeTomaso among rare DeTomasos.
