Sorry, can you better describe your question?

What is meant by intake shaft ?

Move left and right? Do you mean rotate CW and CCW?

Just don't understand what it is you're asking.

A lot better than my German to be sure Wink

When you rotate the ZF input shaft, yes there will be some free rotation of that input shaft (no friction) until the gear teeth all mesh together and the half shafts begin to rotate.

How much depends, as Ron asked, on if the ZF is in gear or neutral.

Its in gear thanks a lot!
I know that it depends on wich gear it is,
But I can move it to nearly 45degrees without any reaction on the half shaft mountings wich came out of the Differential.
I have a ds4 with nearly the same housing here and this have the nearly zerro play.
So I am afraid that there is to much play between Ring and pinnion From the diff. Ohh god I hope some one can understand my English here ...
Peter, you will likely need a ZF manual if you decide to dig further into your transaxle. They are cheaply available from all the U.S vendors and from POCA on a CD-rom, and contain bolt torques, exploded views and much more. Once the bottom cover is off, check for safety wire on the ring gear bolts. Some factory ZFs had it but most did not, and many ZFs have been broken from loosening stock ring gear bolts. Again, all the U.S vendors sell higher grade replacement bolts already drilled, with a length of wire included. NOT a difficult task.
If you do take it apart (and I agree now is the time) make sure every one of the little shims, and wave washers and bolts and clutch packs and... go back exactly where they came from.

What look like little washers on the ZF bottom cover plate are actually shims, and are needed to make sure everything is aligned and doesn't leak.

Good Luck!

Rocky
