Thanks for the break in the regular scheduled programming Doug. What's the red buttons on the wheel?
Boss, Yeh, I should have replaced that when I had the tank out. I'm afraid that the rivets will drop into the tank and crate another issue if I try to replace it. It's not venting at the moment, it appears to be clogged.
Will check puckup tube tomorrow with vac gauge then I also have a camera to look inside the tank after I siphon out the remaining 1/4 tank of gas.
Thanks all for the comments...

The right is for push button start. The left is for the sport setting on the suspension.
The rivets are steel. You can fish them out with a magnet when they fall in. Don't roll the car over until you have the check valve in place. Just sayin'.
Oh. It has been brought to my attention that there are some here that never heard of a Cobra. Here is a picture of the speedometer and you can see that the pointer works counter-clockwise rather than clockwise as in the Pantera. Just so you should know and not be embarrassed about not knowing? (plus everyone likes to see pictures)

Update: Bought a boat gas tank to bypass the gas tank. Fit perfect in the tub and a new fuel line to the fuel pump. Started it up and the filter was over half full then as it ran the level just kept going down to empty, but still kept running. I guess on vapor. Then all of a sudden it filled up again. This went on for about 20 mins. I shut it off and said forget about it. It sat for a while until today and something dawned on me. What about the filters in the Holley. Took off work early and came home and took off the carb and took out the bronze stone filters and put the carb back on. (much easier to to do this with the carb off the motor). Started it up and the gas level in the filter stayed about 3/4 full for over a half hr. I think this was the problem all along. Will drive tomorrow and hopefully all will be ok.
I'll let you know..

The sintered bronze filters in the Holley carbs can get a varnish coating on them that will cause fuel starvation. It seems like this started happening to my carb sometime around 2001 or so. I believe it is related to an additive in the fuel, but I can't be sure. I was always a fire believer in those filters, but removed them and went with a standard in line filter and my problems went away.

Disconnect the fuel line at the carb, check the stone filters at the inlet, starve out. You could if you suspect the fuel pick up tube run a hose into the tank and go directly to the pump, isolating your problem can be frustrating, take your time, you will be able to fix it.
NEXT TIME read my posts, if it has happened on a Pantera I have had it happen to me my odometer has 125,000 mile on it from me, 5 engines and alote of blood sweet and swearing!

So, I took out the stone filters as I mentioned and it ran great (as usual). I went to work and all was great until I got near work and I could feel that it started to stumble a bit. Made it to work and looked at the filter and dang, almost dry AGAIN. Worked then went to leave and the filter was full. Started her up and went directly home. Made it home ok and again the filter was almost dry. My last thought is that the eccentric is slipping and causing intermittent pump stoppage. I have a Cloyes double roller and installed the original 2 piece eccentric. The 2 piece did not have a dowel but a pressed tab portion to interlock with the cam gear. I'm guessing that that small tab may be slipping out of the dowel pin hole. I ordered new Cloyes gears with a one piece eccentric. Starting the tear down today. This has to be the issue. Oh, I took out the fuel pump and tried to use a camera to look at the eccentric but could not see the front of it where the tab is.

I actually had the eccentric tab break off on a 302 Ford and as a result had no fuel pump pressure.
Now what happens when you suddenly run dry with the throttle open is the engine will backfire.
There were a bunch of kids walking when it happened. It sounded like a gunshot.
One of the girls screamed, dropped her ice cream and got so mad she threw it at me.
It was raspberry. It actually tasted pretty good.

...Better Safe , Than Sorry! You Did Right!!
Yeh Marlin, I thought about that. There are some good posts on placing the pump in the tank but I was a bit worried if the bolt is loose and keeping the cam/gear balanced. Also, worried about the dowel pin failing and all hell breaking loose between the cam and the crank. Thanks for your thoughts though.
