The 5.0 V8 (302 cubic inches) from a 1989 Mustang came from Ford making about 215 net bhp. The engine may very well make 300 bhp if it has been modified (alloy heads, hotter cam, etc).

It has the same bell housing & engine mount bolt patterns as the 351W in your Pantera now. You may or may not have coolant plumbing & engine accesory bracket issues to deal with. Your current motor is much taller than the 5.0, so there will most likely be exhaust system issues to resolve.

The 5.0 came from Ford with fuel injection, so unless this motor has already been modified with a carburetor you will either have to remove the fuel injection & install a carburetion system, OR adapt your Pantera for fuel injection.

If you are still up to the swap, the final question is, will you be satisfied with 300 ft/lbs of torque & 300 bhp?

Though a few Pantera Si models can boast a BMW engine, the standard engine on an Si was 5.0 V8. If you look at Si engine bay pics you can't help but notice how undersized this engine looks. It'll bolt up to the ZF no problem.

So if you decide to use a 5.0, at least you'll be in good company.

Good luck.
I think a complete 5.0L motor with harnesses and computer would be a great option for someone outside the country. My 1988 Autocraft Cobra was manufactured in the original AC factory in the UK and came thru with that combo and it is the perfect combination. All the parts to boost the power can come right from Ford and I have seen a bunch of them over 400hp with just factory SVO parts.
thanks for all the gen guys will keep you all posted as to how it goes if i do fit the 302. got to measure up the headers and stuff as im not sure i could get replacements made here. got the rad rebuilt here though, had a whole new core and looks as new and was only about $85.
yes thats me. still hard at it with the welder, got almost 2 sheets of steel back in to the shell now and its looking far better than a few months ago. got to start spending serious money to finish all the parts overhauls, i cried when i learnt suspension bushings are 50 bucks a piece and i need 16 of them and that is just the start of it.i will be useing roland in germany for the parts as the shipping cost is more reasonable and there is no extra tax to pay on import.
I know it seems bleak right now, you just have to keep imagining what it will be like when it is done. Anything that is faught for tenasiously is that much more rewarding when complete. Fight on my good man. Be of good cheer. The day will soon come when you chest swells with pride as you look upon the labor of your hands.
