MANGUSTA FRONT BALL JOINTS

New front upper and lower ball joints have been installed in my car at 60,000 miles. I greased them religiously, the upper one is difficult unless you drill a hole in the upper A-Arm and install a permanent
grease fitting. One of my articles addressing this issue is on Mangusta International in the
Technical Information section.
Here is what I learned from talking to the suppliers, International Auto Parts, FIAT PlUS and Steve Liebenow.
The Fiat 124 ball joints are two sizes, a 43mm top joint and a 40mm bottom joint. The 40mm joint was used on the Mangusta, on both the top and bottom.
Somewhere during the 124 production the lower joints were failing so a reinforced 43mm unit was substituted. Using this joint on a Mangusta would require drilling out the upper and lower receptor, leaving a weakened carrier. The ball joint carrier is already pretty thin where it receives the 40mm part.

I ordered on Thursday afternoon and they were delivered Monday morning.
They also sent a catalog and I think that I saw my tie rod ends in there.
I could not get them anywhere. I even sent a picture and a scaled drawing.
FIAT Plus said they never saw anything like it.

I am very pleased.
These parts are very inexpensive and good ones to purchase and put away while still available.

GREASING SUSPENSION BALL JOINTS AND U-JOINTS
_________________________________________________When doing this be sure to raise the car some so that the suspension is hanging. This allows space around the wear points in the joints for grease to circulate while it is being injected.
