Front grille leather cover?! Anyone else with one?

Just fitting up the trim and dash etc. The trimmer has showed me a part that I’d not seen with the car - looks like a leather cover that pushes into the grille, with two small windows that can opened. This is a German car, and has spent its entire life there. Unsure if it’s a factory thing, or something aftermarket?

We put those on diesel truck in Canada to get someheat in the wintertime.
