I'm getting ready to change my brake pads and wheel bearings. I won't know until I have the wheels off and pop off the dust cover to find out if my car has the "upgrade" to the castle nut/cotter pin setup. In an effort to prevent having my car disassembled for who-knows-how long during the search for the castle nuts, I would like to know where they could be aquired. Since Chuck Melton's information indicates using a 1 1/16 inch socket, I assume the threads are inch, correct? Since one is LH thread and the other a RH thread, are these things a common size? If so, what are they? I'm hoping they are not the hard-to-find parts that require me to wait until Mars and Pluto line up on a third Thursday of the month, build a bonfire from 13th century timber, dance around it three times and then sacrifice a chicken to find these things.

Regardless of whether you buy a kit or not, the spindles both need to be drilled 0.060" for the cotter pin. Since the required hole is outboard of the bearings, drilling doesn't weaken the spindles at all. And the spindles are spercific to the Pantera as far as I know, although the front wheel bearings and seal are the same as 67-69 Chev truck or early '70s Porsche 911. They also fit Mangusta. The castellated nuts are stock late Pantera and at the price new are probably not worth searching for a foreign intertchange so you can buy wrecking-yard nuts.
