I recently had my car emissions tested here in Illinois and it passed with flying colors except for the gas cap. I have a locking type push on gas cap that needs to be replaced. The tech told me that the push on types usually don't pass the gas cap test and that I needed a screw on type. He suggested a Ford B type as Ford(?) only made two different types of caps in the 70's. Is that correct or does anyone know the correct one? I question his suggestion because he aske me if it was a kit car and then went on to claim that he'd seen a few panteras before. Thanks for your help!

The Pantera uses a vented gas cap. Over the years, rust inside the cap sometimes partially blocks the vent. But if the vent is still working (as evidenced by your successfully driving it to/from the scred testing site), I'd say their test is screwed, probably because the entire world went to NON-vented caps along with EFI in the early '80s. All the vendors have the proper cap. Just be sure the tester who does not sound knowlegable does the right test for your vented cap.
