Has anyone yet found a replacement for the cast aluminum front hub dust covers on a '67-'69 Mangusta? I'm told the '70-'71s may be different. I found there are two different series of '67-69 covers, but both are cast aluminum with rather fragile inner/outer lips, left from factory machining for the required giant snap-ring & sealing o-ring.
On a '69 'Goose, I found both its caps had most of at least one flange gone entirely. This lets wheel bearing grease get slung out against the inside of the front rims & makes a mess, as well as more seriously throwing some on the brake rotors. I also wonder where the pieces went....
If I can't find factory replacements, I'll probably just machine up some from much stronger 6061 or even 7075-aluminum. This, I think will be easier than trying to weld-repair the cracked and missing cast sections on the stockers. I'd also like to know if this is a common problem or rare. Well, since I've gotten zero response, I must conclude that this is an unusual part to break. Wilkinson has no parts, and apparently Santiago in Modena has found none either. So I machined up a couple of replacements from much stronger 6061 t-6 aluminum, with a couple of minor corrections to the (possibly defective) original design.
