It was a beautiful Saturday here in Atlanta. There were no less than 5 car show/gatherings
around to visit. I opted for a United Way benefit show sponsored by UPS. A nice gathering of maybe 125 cars. Mine was the only Pantera. There was a beautiful Maserati Bora, no Lambos and 1 Ferrari mid 80's of what model I do not know.

The "F" owner I recognized from a couple of other car shows this summer. We were talking about the other shows that day and he mentions a "historic" show (vehicle must be 25 yrs or older). He said the Pantera would qualify but his would not. He went on to say that if he did go he was sure they would let him in …… because his was a "Ferrari".

We talked about the up coming annual Italian Car Day and I mentioned that there were usually a good showing by Panteras. Mike Dailey (The Pantera Place) organized one year with as I remember 25 Panteras. The "F" guy than says to me " Well you know that the show is for "Real" Italian cars and Panteras are just a hybrid. "

I thought for a moment of laying into him about his attitude, but as I am trying to mature in my old age, I just smiled shook my head and walked away.

I come from 'that' world and can say that the guy to whom you spoke is more than likely chasing a myth. He is his car. His car are his aspriations. His asprirations are vapor and so...

Anyway. Rest assured, there are Ferrari guys and ladies by the score who ARE not their cars, but appreciate them because of what they are - Artful containers of performance.

They too have 40 weight in their veins... and appreciate most all of us who do. I don't give a rip about Street Rods, but care that others do. My Ferrari friends generally don't give a rip about Corvettes but appreciate what they represent.

"Real" F-car enthusiasts are real car enthusiasts. Sounds as if your acquaintance was neither. Thanks for carrying the torch for us.
BTW, that was only a joke....I've heard it said about Porsche owners, been one myself 8 times over, along with a couple of Ferrari's and a couple of Lamborghini's.

I have a very dear friend that currently owns a F430, one of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet. As are many, many other owners of exotic cars of all kinds.
I must just be lucky that I don't live in an area that is crawling with exotic Italian machinery like some of you guys. There are only two Ferrari's in town - a Testarossa owned by a banker & a 308 owned by a doctor & you'll never see them on the street let alone a car show. My Pantera is the most exotic thing around & most people think it's a Ferrari or Lambo anyway so I just have to smile and explain that it's a true Italian "muscle car"!
