Jami,

The original GR4 wheels were 15" dia. by 10" wide front and 14" wide rear and those widths would be about the limit I guess from several perspectives; a) Correct appearance under the fender flares b) rear tire availability and at 14" width you will be very limited in choice (as far as I'm aware just a Michelin pilot Sport Cup in the 345/30).

I only know of one car using aftermarket 14" wide wheels and that is Laslo Antal's in Australia and he makes it look awesome. For pics go to www.wildpantera.com

The GT5 & GT5S cars all have a 13" wide rear and I was told that the GR4 flares and GT5 flares are the same width (although I have not had this actually confirmed by anyone with a physical measurement). This opens up more options for tires with Michelin, Pirelli & Kuhmo at least having tire available in 335/30/17.

There was a lot of discussion on offsets/back spacing during the group Kodiak buy last year, I made my pourchase based on wanting to add GR4 flares, the following are the specs I went with;

Front 17" x 10" with 4 5/8" back space ( to inner flange)
Rear 18" x 13" with 4 3/4" back space.

My backspace decision was based upon dimensions Jim Cozzolino kindly supplied from his GT5. I went with 18" dia. for the rear as I wanted to accuent the nose down rake. You may want to do a search on some of the old posts, there is some valuable information available.

Whatever you go with be prepared for a wait, it seems that virtually all the wheel manufacturers are in excess of 6 weeks delivery times, some even longer. I'm very please with my Kodiaks; They are a great wheel, very light and a good price. All I have to do now is find a set of the steel GR4 flares with the same quality!

the original Campy magnesium wheels were painted, so paint the 16, 17, 18 inch wheels too. just because they come from the manufacturer bare aluminum doesn't mean they have to remain bare aluminum. I've seen owners paint the Campy clones and I think the results are quite attractive. If I were to purchae a set of Campy clones I would paint mine.

Problem is they all look like something Autozone had cut for 10 million customers. They don't look the same. I just love the old look of the original GR4.

Thanks for the link. Awesome cars and wheels looks very fine. Both (GT4 and GT5) rim designs are along the lines that i have had in my mind.

The thing is that in 16" (and 15" for that matter) there is limited variety of choises of good tires than in 17" - at least this is how it looks like from where i am anyway.

My rim/tire books (stro) says that for 335/35-17 tire 12" rim width is optimun (i.e. legal?). Thoughts on this one? I think it will depent to some extent the make of the tire also?

There is some decent lookin rims 10.5x17" and 13x17" but i´m not sure will these fit with Gr 4 flares (= GT4?)?
I have group (GT4) flares on my car and have 10" x 17" wheels in the front and 13" x 17" wheels in the rear with 245/40/17 tires up front and 335/35/17 in the rear and they fit just fine with the flares. No rubbing. I used a standard GT5S offset when I ordered them. It is very similar to offset previously mentioned.
Hope that helps.

Are the original style Gr4 wheels still available at all?

In my European eBay antics, I actually came across an Italian that worked for Campagnolo. He told me the company, and all the historical molds for all the Campy wheels used on various marques over the years, are now owned by a Japanese man. He went on to say the new owner was, basically, an asshole. This guy thinks he has nothing but pure gold with these molds, and any thought of reproducing any wheels is destroyed by his subsequent "you'll pay my price or go without" philiosphy.

Anyhow, I doubt that the demand for De Tomaso 15" wheels, even the rare 10",13",14" sizes would even come close to justifying a re-run of those sizes, even at a reasonable pricing. And as we all know, road/race worthy tires in those sizes are scarce as hen's teeth, anyway.

Larry,

In the new world ... if it isnt for sale it isnt worth nothing. The OLD MONOPOLIZING mentality is gone ... with the internet you can buy the same products elsewhere.

I have old parts from the STEAM HEATING days .. I listed them on EBAY and they sell like hot cakes ... my Dad has had them for 50 years ... they have 3" of dust on them. Now some are worth more as scrap Brass.

This old fellow will find in a few more years there will be no tires to mount on them ... then he tooo will have STEEL MOLDS he can get about .25 cents a pound for steel LOL

In the NY its too costly to store and warehouse scrap.

What is std GT5S offset (i.e. you rims)? And do you have orginal ride height?

Yes that helps, thanks a bunch.
