Grinding When Put in Reverse | The De Tomaso Forums

My trans has been grinding lately when I go from neutral to reverse. It doesn't happen all of the time, just most of the time.

What could be the problem?

There is no synchro for reverse. Ensure time is allowed to shift into reverse or go to 2nd first. Check for slop in the linkage or loose knuckles.

Ahh, OK. I did not know that. Thanks. That makes sense then why it only grinds when I do a relatively quick change from moving forward to reverse and not when I start the car to back it out of the garage...

I will still check the linkage and knuckles though.

Husker is right on.

Placing the car in 1st or 2nd before going into reverse will make like easier on your ZF.
