Good Morning,

I just completed the header tank conversion and getting ready to install the new motor this weekend.  I had purchased a FlowKooler 1648S water pump before modifying the header tank and just realized it doesn't have an extra suction connection to connect to the tank.  Any ideas on how to use the Flow Kooler pump and if not, does anyone know the Edelbrock part number that is used for this setup?

Hey John….

It’s been a long time since I set this up…. AND I’m in Ohio, and my car is in Arizona, but…

I think the two inputs on the pump body are suction, and the one on the block is an output (heater supply).

Someone will let us know if I am smoking crack…  You may have everything you need  with your current water pump.

This came from the second or third page of my 5357 build thread… You can find it with a quick search on 5357.

Maybe it would be worth a call to Flowcooler, or Stewart…

I think we all agree the fitting on the block is an “output”, because the pump is sucking water from the lower left main hose from the radiator, and injecting it into the engine block.  The heated water then comes out of the block to the swirl tank through the thermostat housing.

I know for a fact that my engine hasn’t overheated in 5-6 years (or ever, since I set it up).  

So either my overflow tank isn’t under suction, or I have two “outputs” feeding my heater core.

I think the angle of the blades (and of course, direction of rotation) inside the water pump would be an important factor.

It is hard to think that two connections within ~3” of each other within an open chamber can behave vastly differently…  

A picture of the back side of the pump (with blades) might tell the tale… if there is a divider between those two ports on the pump, I might be more convinced…

Yes. The two aftermarket coolant pumps I am familiar with (Flow Kooler and Edelbrock) both have TWO threaded ports for the pump suction, one is needed for the heater core, the second port makes a ideal place to plumb the header tank.
