Anyone ever do anything about the 2 steel tubes that run through the console area from the firewall to the heater core? Mine have a lot of surface rust and scale on them and I am concerned about them corroding through when I reconnect my heater hoses. I was thinking about capping off the ends in the engine compartment, pouring Ospho in until they were completely full inside and then draining and flushing them. Then a friend suggested using something like POR-15 and again capping off the ends and filling them completely.

Any other / better ideas?

There was a posting awhile back about someone who tried to reroute or replace them, I can't remember which. He found they were surprisingly thick and weren't that effected by corrosion. Filling them with POR-15 would be expensive (relatively) since you can't re-use the POR-15. They talked about using a sponge soaked with it and just forcing it through the line. Eastwood sells a spray gun for undercoating with various rigid and flexible nozzles I'm looking into to do inside the frame rails.
