My question is to Pantera owners will high miles on their engines and transaxles. How many of you have driven your cars trouble free over 100k with regular services? Thanks
My 73 GTS has 97,000 miles and the transmission has zero problems. I did replace the clutch slave cylinder recently, but the gears and synchros all seem to be in perfect working order.
I am coming up on 184,000 miles. I did the motor about 100,000 miles ago, and it still runs good! I have never had the transaxle apart. (keeping my fingers crossed!) I have changed the fluid a couple of times. It is driven at least a couple of times each week, averaging 100-300 miles.
184000 Miles! I'm impressed. I'm looking at a 73L with 84,000 miles. The car is very clean, runs and shifts fine(very slight whine from the ZF)does need some attention at the rack, heater controls, possible right rear wheel bearing(has small amount of play). After owning a XKE, six 69 camaros, buick gn, '40 Ford coupe,a Rover 3500s(I know, a litte weird)and other toys, my dream of a pantera is getting real close.
I find this an interesting topic considering that there are cars out there advertized with 38,000 miles and such! How can one be sure the correct milage isn't 138,000? But if so, what difference would it really make if the car has received a ground up restoration?
You are right. Look at all the mustangs, camaros, and different special interest cars that are well cared for, or totally restored to top condition. The mileage doesn't seem to be a factor at all. There will be low mileage cars around with full documentation getting top dollar, but a very clean, well cared for car will bring big bucks too.
Sometimes the low milage cars are the ones that scare me. I think there is such a thing as good or appropriate mileage. I think an occasionally driven car should have more that 75000 miles on it. I know that late model passenger cars that have extremly low miles are often salvaged and have been sitting in somebodys lot (or body shop) for a long time and haven't been driven (hence the low mileage)
