My idler pulley (front of engine - Crank to Jackshaft) has begun to squeal a bit lately... a bit of White Lithium Grease calms it down for awhile, but I think the bearing in it is going out. Is this a standard Ford part or can I replace the bearing in it?

Thanks, that's the direction I was leaning towards, just wanted to make sure it wasn't an $8 part at the auto parts stores.

For a very long time, the stock idler bearing (extra light duty) was not available anywhere, and they failed frequently. So out of necessity, I found that if you're careful with the A/C compressor alignment on its mount bolts, you can eliminate the idler bearing altogether and simply use a slightly shorter vee belt with NO IDLER PULLEY! This is even easier if your car has the smaller, lighter and more efficient rotary compressor. Our '72 has not had an idler pulley in 40 years.

Mike, if the idler is out. Best to simply go to local “bearing supply” store and order a good quality replacement part. The expensive part will be the labour to carefully replace.

Hi Mike, this seems to fall in the 'always something' category
Not sure you need #s still...my notes show this for the larger idler bearing: 17 x 40mm; 12mm width, jackshaft drive pulley. For the smaller water pump pulley: 17 x 35mm; width = 14mm. Regards, Nate

It's the front Idler pulley that's squealing. not sure I follow your comment... I don't have an idler pulley on the rear... The jackshaft drive pulley runs the alternator and a/c directly. Perhaps mine has already been bypassed as you mentioned.
This is the one that tightens the belt that drives the jackshaft on the front of the engine
