JACK
I BOUGHT THE PADS FOR STOCK REAR BRAKES FROM
FOREIGN PARTS NEAR ZANG. tHEY DO NOT HAVE THE DIMPLE ON THE BACK. USED THE GLUE ON THE PISTON SIDE AND ONE WITH THE DIMPLE ON THE FLOATING SIDE. SEEMS THAT MY PASSENGER SIDE
FLOATING PAD WEARS FASTER THAN ALL THE REST
DOES NOT FLOAT FREE AND EASY
Yellow-guy, be aware that the early Pantera's rear calipers are also used on some models of Peugeot; not an easily-sourced machine either. The whole caliper is designed to slide along the steel-plate e-brake frame. Some strategically-placed grease in the caliper grooves may aid the sliding action, after the usual 30 years of road-grime is cleaned off. To adjust the rear caliper, the slot in the piston is rotated about 45 degrees with some tool, then the piston can be retracted. The stock brake pad has a tab that engages the slot and prevents the piston from turning while you're driving. If it does, the self-adjusting feature of the e-brake is lost but not the braking action.
Jack,

Do you have any advice on replacing brake pads? I got the new carbon kevlar pads from PI for some weekend racing needs but when I tried to install them in the drivers rear I couldn't get the assembly to open up enough to accept the new pads and rotor. Jerry @ PI said to grind them down but that kind of defeats the purpose of spending big bucks on new pads to then grind off half their life! Any suggestions as to how to open up the assembly wide enough to get the pads and rotor reassembled? Would yo be kind enough to respond to bdress547@msn.com so I don't miss your response? You have helped me many times in the past and thanks for anything you can do to get this job done!

After reading another post you made, I noticed you're working on your rear calipers.

You'll need to adjust the rear caliper so that it can accept the new and thicker brake pad. To do this, insert a screwdriver (lengthwise) onto the slot that's on the piston head. Rotate the piston 45 degrees.

Once rotated, the piston will retract giving you room to insert the new pad. Once the piston slides back, don't forget to rotate and lock the piston back to its original position before you install the new pads.

Perhaps his exodus from this board is related to POCA's hostile takeover of the email forum and its archives?

And so the POCA VP has banned him from this site? Razzer
The PI Bulletin Board has no link with POCA other than we POCA members who hand out here.

I can verify what Jim said, Jack is unable to log into Groupee due to his computer & software, which he has no intention of upgrading.

What's this about POCA taking over the mail list? I thought the mail list members had voted to remain separate?

I don’t think the list takeover was hostile because the owner of the list agreed to let POCA to takeover operations. The list takeover was just one part of POCA’s plan to have one giant mega website to host all things related to Pantera stuff in one place rather than many individual sites that may be hard for new Pantera owners to find. A website that consolidated all websites would be an advantage for POCA to expand its membership and better serve the Pantera community.

I’m just the messenger!
