I finally found time to install my new clutch. I've got the ZF (with bell house on) about 1/2" from block but I'm not sure that the ZF shaft is through the disk. In the past with other trans I just put it in gear and spin the output shaft to see if the trans is through the disk. How can I put the ZF in gear to spin the trans axle to verify that I am in fact through the disk before I tighten up the bolts from the bell house to the block. I have the top 2 bolts started but when tightened I feel resistance so I assume that I am NOT through the disk yet. I lined the disk up with a pilot tool so I know that the disk is correct.

FYI, to manually shift the ZF into gear I just pulled/pushed the rod where the shifter linkage connects. When the shafts comming out of the ZF that connect to the half shafts could not turn I was sure that I had the input shaft through the disk. Then with the help of a crow bar it slid right up to the block. Now with all the talk about shifting linkage and clutch sleeve's being out of adjustment I'm ready for my next pantera adventure. Pretty soon I'll know this car inside and out, but that's the fun of it all and why we love these cars...
