Insulating firewall

I elected to provide the heat and sound deadening on the inside of the firewall and the metal hatch cover.

I installed two layers of Dynamat and a cover of a foil heat barrier.

there is plenty of room to do this, and the insulation is safe from engine bay oils, grime and physical damage  

assuming you do have an empty engine bay and the gas tank has been removed, pay attention to how tightly your gas tank fits against the firewall. The gas tank has very little wiggle room once properly positioned.

As for specific locations, I think the goal is to cover as much area as you can to gain maximum benefit.

Thanks Larry, I’m going to cover both sides, I did a dry fit on the tank and it looks like there is room…  

wondering if there was a reason the original material doesn’t cover everthing… looks like carpet jute on the inside of the firewall now, looks original to me

A buddy of mine helped me fabricate stainless panels to go over the insulation.  They came out really nice.
