I've been chasing an intermittent turn signal problem that shows up from time to time. 90%+ of the time all is fine. Occasionally, for no apparent reason, my turn signals just stop working. No signals at external lights or dash, nada. Then, next time in the car, all is well. It never takes out a fuse. It's a bit unnerving.

A rare warm dry January Iowa day presented itself to me yesterday so I woke up the Pantera, and yup, had turn signals for the first 20 minutes and then none on the way home. So while the gremlins are active, I’d like to try to track it down.

I have checked the ground in the rear tail light harness and have confirmed it well grounded. Any suggestions from those that have been this route?

I had a similar issue with 2511 a couple years back. Intermittent, no pattern. It has the early four prong Bosch flasher unit, which is near impossible to replace. Big Bucks when you can find them.

I did fiddle with the connections there, pulled all bulbs to inspect and checked grounding points.

Well, without wanting to do each little check and then drive waiting to see if the intermittent problem would reoccur, I just did it all at once. And of course the problem went away. So what was the problem? I'll never know.

There is a method to use a newer three prong flasher to replace the four prong if you get to that conclusion.

My turn signals stopped working. It was traced to the emergency flasher.

VERY good point.

Try moving the flasher button around with turn signals on. Internal loosening can interrupt contacts. Often a toothpick wedged between ring and button will hold button in the 'correct' position as a temp (permanent) fix.

BUT be very careful if removing wires. There are about ten zillion wires on that thing, and messing one up will give you more grief than the current turn signal issue.

If issue is the emergency switch, rebuild steps are posted...(CRS)...somewhere, maybe on a thread here?

Robert & Larry are correct. It could be several things contributing to the problem. Problem(s) are either flasher, connector or ground. With power to the turn signal, get behind the dash & look for the nylon connector behind the flasher button. See if the connector has a loose contact. I once had a problem with the connector, used contact cleaner & some tie wraps to hold the connector from moving. There is also a nylon wire connector in front of the right rear wheel. It is a harness connection for the tail lights. Clean that connector & cinch with a tie wrap to keep it from breaking contact from vibration.

Check the flasher switch while you are behind the dash. If you still can't create the intermittent problem, I suspect you need to chase the ground. My problem ground was the tail light bucket contact. A gound wire from the harness connects to the tail light bucket. Easy to take apart & spray both tail light buckets with the contact cleaner. I ran a seperate ground to both tail light buckets, solved the problem.

The flasher stat is a simple and easy replacement with an electronic version:
Tridon-Stant part number EP35. Less than $10.I would get the new flasher first & leave it in the car even if it is not the problem. Your old OEM flasher is probably tired.

Bad grounds will do some crazy things to your car.

Good luck,
