I found the article. Here's the quote:

"Heavily modified steel 4V closed chamber heads that Glidden, Roush and
others ran using relocated and filled intake ports and raised exhaust
ports. "Dyno Don" Nicholson showed us his notebooks which revealed flow
bench figures superior on the old, heavily-massaged all steel Cleveland
heads when compared to the modern canted-valve SVO parts."

Looks like he was referring to the flow bench results for a extensively
re-worked high-ported iron 4V head. There's no reference to which of the
aluminum SVO heads the comparison was made against nor was mention made as
to whether or not the SVO heads were tested out-of-the-box or ported. My
guess is that this wasn't an apples-to-apples comparison but more of an
illustration of what could be done with those factory heads. You can to do
anything to an A3 head that you can do to a 4V head and the A3 is a better
starting point. Also, the author refers to steel heads. OEM Cleveland
heads are cast iron, not steel. Very different properties, particularly
when it comes to welding repair.

Hey Dan, work with me here, this is strictly from memory. Smiler

What year/month was the Super Ford?

Steel sounds better then iron although I have found that they weld up pretty well with a 304 stainless rod.

Anybody see what I did with my keys? I can't remember where I put them. I'll bet you I lost them at that nude incounter group thing.
