The original dipstick on 1971 and 1972 Panteras was too long. It thus gave incorrect oil level readings when using the factory stamped markings; showing a higher oil level than was actually in the oil pan.
A Ford Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) was issued to correct this mistake. TSB #5, Article 34, instructed to remove some of the dipstick's coiled spring and braze the handle to the spring. When Ford performed this correction, the handle was painted a bright yellow.
Proper length from the dipstick tip to the stop, as shown in this diagram, should be 38"
