Every now and then I haveto throw in some controversy just to keep you guys awake. You get too complacent without it apparently. So here is the latest I found out.
Before the very first Pantera for sale ever touched foot in AMerica, Ford had already decided to only import them until the 1974 model year. They planned total US sales of between 12 and 15,000 units. No, I don't know why that was, but I got this information from a Road and Track magazine article printed in 71. So there, Ford did exactlt what they had planned from day one. Only import until 74. It had nothing to do with how popular the car was cause they made the decision before they had any idea.

I seem to remember that 74 was about the time that new emission, bumper and safety standards were to go into effect and that it was the factory's opinion that it would too expensive to update the car to meet both of those standards given the low projected volumes for the car, hence the plan was to end production rather than meet the requirements - so you could very well be correct ????
I got a better one for you. In the late 70's and early 80's my brother and I worked for Ford in Customer Relations at different times. We both handled Pantera complaints in what they called Priority Section. We heard that the relationship between Henry and DeTomaso fell apart when Henry was caught dating DeTomaso's daughter.

How do you like that. Have you ever heard of the Panteras dumped overboard?
