Hello all. Is it feasible to switch from an early style dash to a late model single pod unit? will the older speedo and tach fit in the newer dash? Will it require major mods to the mounts? I have a chance to purchase a late model dash for a decent price but there are no mounts, gauges, switches or lights. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Funny this conversation,,,, when I was buying I wanted a single pod no matter what, but the car for me (performance parts) was a dual pod. After years of ownership I must say that I now prefer the dual pod dash on Panteras in general ???? More authentic / exotic to me I guess??? Just a thought, .......... O O ........ it’s kind of cool in its own way…... More old school...
Ask yourself what the motivation for the switch over is. Just because it is newer? So what.

The hand sewn early dash is a much finer unit than the later ones from an upholstery viewpoint.

Pretty sure tach and speedo are the same, though.

However, it is a major PITA to swap over. A/C unit vents are different, too; in addition to the mounting and center console issues already mentioned.

Lot of money and time - isn't there something else that would be more productive for a winter project? Wink

Just my 2¢

Larry (quite happy with my early dash)
There is also a third type of dash which is the post Ford dash.
It has four A/C vents which are of a different type design.
The tach and the speedos are the same but you are going to be splicing in new wire extensions all over.

The a/c ducting needs to be"modified to fit and the controls are different.

The front part of the console, that mounts the gauges is a little different and needs to be replaced or "modified".

The windshield wiper switches, emergency flasher, and windshield washer are located lower.

The serial number plate needs to be remounted and the "new dash" needs to be "fit" to your car.

It seems like a simple bolt in but it isn't.
