a while back I submitted to you my thoughts on the preparation of the 351C lubrication system. One of my suggestions was to install bushings in all 16 tappet bores with 0.060 inch orifices to improve oil flow to the crank and thus the rod bearings, to raise hot oil pressure, and to control the amount of oil flowing to the valve train. Basically to fix the lubrication system.

Below is a pic of a block in which that has been done, although you can only view the right hand lifters in the picture.

Enjoy! Happy New Year everybody, I'm headed out of town again this evening!

I am in the process of building a stroker Cleveland.
Have read the article about oiling system upgrades, and would like to know where to buy the lifter bore bushings. Believe you mentioned it beeing from Ford Motorsports. Part no. or link pls.
I am installing the CHI 3V heads. Do they need to be modifyed regards the "return" holes for the oil ?
Planning to ad a oil return tube at the back of the block, to connect the bottom (oil pan)and the lifter gallery. In the picture shown in the article this would be to the left of the lifter bores. Is this Ok or not ?

best regards

Happy new year !

Frode,

Ford has not sold the bushing kit for decades. The current source is Wydendorf Machine.

I have no experience with CHI heads, so I'm not able to comment regarding the oil drain back holes. It will be easy enough to check this once you have the heads. Remember, not only is oil drain back important, but so is "ventilation".

I am ambivalent about the external oil drain back line. It won't hurt anything, but it most likely won't improve anything either. I don't promote it. I believe the tappet bore bushings will meter the amount of oil properly, making oil drain back less of an issue.

Happy New Year brother!
