Driving home tonight, first time driving at night for more than 20 minutes with my new Vader lights, suddenly all the parking and console lights go off. No smoke. No hot wire smells. I check the fuses - all good. Oviously it wouldn't be a fuse since both sides front and back and all gauges are at least two.

My guess is the light switch itself, I was flicking it on and off trying different light settings. But before I pop it out, check the wires and try another switch, are there any other things I should check first?

I searched relevant posts on the BB. An old one from Coz who has the same car was helpful as none of the diagrams indicate the correct wire colours. I got inside and took some pics. I also heard the relay click when the headlight switch is turned on. So that's one less thing I have to do.

I think it is one of the following:
a) a bad switch
b) a wire missing from the switch
c) or that orange wire fell off the rheostat

Could that be? Any ideas?

David,

I can not be certain that the wiring in your beautiful white GT5 is the same as the wiring in the earlier cars.

Assuming it is......

The orange wire is supposed to connect to tab #1 of the headlight switch. The orange wire runs from the light switch to the fuse box, splits to fuses #3 & #4, and those 2 fuses supply the running lamps, rear tail lamps, side marker lamps, license plate lamps plus the instrument & control illumination for the dahsboard.
