If you've read this far, you have an interest in Longchamps. So some facts for you:

1978 VIN 3017 = Series 2 = all the performance goodies
Rust free, new paint
Ivory leather and blue velvet interior, some fading
Dave McLain/Dan Jones/Mikael Hass (Wink) stroker
Monster Transmission AOD 4 speed
Fresh brakes and suspension
17" wheels to lower the tire sidewalls. Biggest wheels that can fit inside fenders, had to wait 4 months before Lenso had a production run with that offset
Everything works, drives like a slightly heavy racecar, turns heads everywhere in Denmark

yes, It looks GREAT.

I agree on the classic color for a perfomance sedan. the wheel choice is also "classic"

thanks for the photos and enjoy this Spring!

just a thought/comment....
have you ever thought about blacking out the shallow in the center disc of the wheels, to extend the wire look all the way to the nut.

Guess that look is just something I once did since I can find no pics online of a wheel done that way
It's the current issue, 2018, #1.

It has Scott Martin's white 3001 car on the cover.

It's a really well done issue.

According to Scott's research...

"How many Longchamps were built and how many different models were there? Like all things De Tomaso, there are no detailed records. The most common number is 409 built between 1972 and 1988. When the factory was still open, Claudia Lodi confirmed the 409 number with 395 coupes and 14 spyders."
Well done, Mikael! Looks really sharp.
Unfortunately, some of your images is not as perfect as your car, due to a hanging right mirror.
I dislike those mirrors on my Deauville, and one of mine is damaged. I remember you searched for another type of mirror. You didn't find any, or did you just settle for original?
They look better in good condition, as yours look now.
Just as a followup, yesterday was about looks, today was about performance, took a spirited drive. It drives fantastically.

-Acceleration, while not 600HP Pantera quick, it leaves everything on Danish roads in the dust with the McLain/Jones stroker torque monster

-Handling, found a roundabout, took a few rounds faster and faster, g-forces quite impressive, and when the speed finally did overcome the new tires, it skidded slowly on all four wheels. A perfectly balanced chassis. Thank you DeTomaso engineers

-Braking. Excellent. Pedal hard, and a full emergency braking stop is steady, no drama. Only one thing. This winter I in my ignorance rewired the brake cylinder warning light, it was wired so both chambers had to be low, I rewired so just having one chamber low would trigger warning light. Seemed like the best thing. Well it brakes so hard it now triggers the light in the master cylinder's rear sensor, even at fluid level at Max, so have to redo the wiring Razzer

Beauty AND Beast!
Hi, I managed to get my Longchamp in the biggest (=only) classic car magazine in Denmark. I’ve talked to the “journalist” about my Pantera a few times, but he was a lot more interested in the Longchamp, due to its rarity, most readers wouldn’t know what it was.

We spent a few hours together on a sunny day, interior pictures parked in one place, exterior in another place, and then he had me drive back and forth on a country road 15-20 times while he took pictures. In the end, he asked if he could drive it back to my place, and he did with me in the unfamiliar passenger seat. And he liked that. Until he drove it, he had been very nice and polite, and I had told him about the excellent handling. Not sure he believed me. He liked the sound though, a lot. But after he had driven it, he was very impressed with the handling and the steering, tight etc., and smiling a lot. A lot better than he had expected he said… Smiler

The article is pretty good I think. There are AFAIK no factual errors as I proofread it before he printed. His angle is of course the rarity and the Italy/US thing. He was also very interested in the fact that I used it as a daily driver for 18 months some years back, he thinks cars should be driven, even in our climate.

So now a lot more Danes at least know what they’re missing if they don’t have DeTomaso Longchamp

Fame, ain't it a bitch...? Wink Cool
