I took my 72 Pantera out for a spin last weekend and all was fine. It has 26K origional
miles. Stopped at a store and parked. Got in again and don't have reverse anymore. No grinding or noises prior. I have all 5 foward gears and have not removed the reverse switch.
Any and all suggestions as to cause and remedy will be greatly appreciated. I'd rather not start hunting blindly. Thanks all.

Check where the shift shaft connects to the transmission. It slides onto a splined shaft coming out of the side of the trans. If it loosened up you may not be able to engage reverse. If you need to reset it simply make sure you are in neutral and that the shifter is as well and then tighten the shaft end onto the splined shift rod coming out of the trans to retain that adjustment.
Check the reverse switch. When mine went "into storage" 20 years ago it had reverse. This year, when Started working on it, I had the same problem. Turned it out 1/2 turn and slipped right in. How it "moved" in storage is anyones guess...but may be yours.

Also, check the gate plate, is it possible it shifted and is interfering with the shift stick?
